1TWITF[C Chapter 10
by REX-NOVELISTSChapter 10
What Li Fangzhi didn’t see was that behind her, Li Fangwan was quietly watching her. As the elevator doors closed, they reflected Li Fangwan’s silhouette. Her jet-black, waist-length curly hair revealed that she was unmistakably another woman!
Li Fangzhi, however, didn’t seem to notice, as if turning a blind eye to her sister’s strange figure. She turned around, pulled her sister along, and sent a message to He Lou with her other hand.
[Brother Lou, we’ve all overlooked a problem.]
[This building doesn’t just have nine floors, it has ten!]
Ten floors?
Where was the extra floor?
No wonder they didn’t know. They were confined within the apartment and couldn’t go out, naturally unable to count the height of the building. They could only learn the answer from Lu Yanli.
He steadied his mind. The door had already opened. He quickly replied with a message, put his phone back in his pocket, and began to chat with the resident.
The residents of 101 on the first floor were a family of three. The husband and wife were both home on the weekend. He Lou pretended to be visiting a friend and, seeing that the building was nice, wanted to buy a house, using this as an excuse to ask some questions.
“I stayed at a friend’s house last night and heard it. It was really noisy.” He Lou said, expressing his understanding. After chatting for a few sentences, he asked very casually, “I heard this building has ten floors? Why does the elevator only have nine?”
He Lou shook his head, not saying how he knew, only asking Lu Yanli to count the floors outside.
He now understood the loophole in this task.
Lu Yanli obediently went out and counted. He even took a photo. After coming back in, he counted carefully, his expression solemn, “There really is an extra floor…”
Which floor was the extra one?
Strangely, the photo seemed to have some kind of magic, no matter how they counted, they couldn’t get a clear number.
He Lou had a bad feeling in his heart. For some reason, he always felt that the extra floor might be near the third floor.
“Brother Lou, what’s wrong?” Lu Yanli asked, puzzled, waving his hand in front of him.
He still looked a little simple and innocent, with a concerned expression.
He Lou suddenly asked, “Don’t you really know?”
Since he had been facing those weird things all along, would he really overlook this abnormality in his own apartment?
If he was really that stupid, how had he survived in the past?
Lu Yanli blinked, “Huh?”
But Lu Yanli didn’t care. This group’s task still required a few days. If He Lou knew what was good for him, he wouldn’t fall out with him.
Being required to stay in the apartment for a week, not allowed to go out, not only meant that there was an abnormality in the apartment, but also implied that some clues had to be obtained outside the apartment.
The two seemed to have no grudges, but in reality, they each had their own agendas, continuing to look for the next household to ask for information.
104 was empty, it was unknown if anyone lived there.
Next were 201, 202…
Neither of them realized that they had overlooked a bigger mistake.
“Did you get any information?” Li Fangzhi asked.
He Lou shook his head.
Everyone seemed like normal residents living in ordinary apartments, with no abnormalities. If they casually asked about the surrounding building information, it would match the map that He Lou had specifically checked.
“Yes.” Li Fangzhi’s expression was solemn as she pointed to the ceiling.
It was actually right above them?
He Lou didn’t know whether to say this was expected or unexpected. Seeing Li Fangzhi’s answer, he actually felt a sense of relief.
The abnormality… this apartment building was the abnormality, wasn’t it?
Lu Yanli looked shocked, swallowing hard, and also pointed to the ceiling, not daring to speak too loudly, “You’re saying the extra floor is…?”
Li Fangzhi nodded.
“Then… the sound we heard?” Lu Yanli muttered to himself, “No wonder, no wonder my upstairs neighbor said he was just chopping dumpling filling, and the police didn’t find anything…”
“That every night, the thing making the sound…” Lu Yanli didn’t dare to continue.
“It’s still too early to draw conclusions.” He Lou said, his gaze turning to Lu Yanli, “To determine the source of the sound, we’ll wait on the fourth floor tonight.”
“No! The fourth floor is too…” Lu Yanli lowered his voice, “If it really is the fourth floor, wouldn’t that be too dangerous? Let’s go to the fifth floor. Even if there’s a floor in between, we should still be able to hear clearly.”
He Lou vaguely sensed that something was wrong, but Li Fangzhi thought what Lu Yanli said made sense, agreeing with his point of view.
Lu Yanli subconsciously shook his head, suddenly thinking of something, and said, “There’s still an old camera that I bought a long time ago.”
“Then let’s wait on the fifth floor tonight, and put the camera on the fourth floor. Can it still be used?”
“It should be able to, wait for me to find it.”
Seeing Lu Yanli rummaging through boxes and cabinets, He Lou and Li Fangzhi exchanged a look. Afterwards, He Lou seemingly unintentionally walked to the TV in the living room, quickly replaced the battery of a miniature video recorder placed in the corner, and replaced the storage card.
Although ghosts can often affect electronic equipment, recording functions can instead make ghosts appear and help them grasp the movements of the NPCs. On the first day they moved in, the three of them installed surveillance cameras in every room.
He Lou also wanted to know what Lu Yanli was up to. Was he really as innocent as he appeared to be?
Over there, Lu Yanli had already found an old-fashioned camera, running out excitedly, “Found it, it can still be used. I’ll charge it for a while.”
“Okay, we’ll rely on it tonight.”
Night fell.
Sure enough, the time it took to pass from the third floor to the fourth floor was about half as long as the other floors.
