1TWITF[C Chapter 153

The room fell silent.
“What does it mean by ‘devour’?” Lu Yanli asked.
His gaze was cast towards the swaying green seawater outside the glass, his eyes filled with a deathly stillness. Ever since he learned that he might just be a contained object, his mentality had undergone a noticeable change.
No one answered him, not even his future self.
After a long while, he said, “I’m going out for a bit.” Lu Yanli felt that he couldn’t just wait here; he preferred to take the initiative into his own hands.
That brain didn’t seem to want to confine them, and when it saw that Lu Yanli wanted to leave, the door opened smoothly. Lu Yanli returned to the room where the brain in a jar was stored.
Lu Yanli: “You know very well what I want to ask.” As he spoke, he reached out and seemingly grasped one of the thick blood vessels, like the winding tentacles in a Cthulhu myth, “You should know what answer I want to hear.”
The brain emitted a sharp, strange laugh, much like the eerie laughter Lu Yanli had once heard. The empty room was filled only with its voice, a pale, bloody brain connected to several tubes, floating in mid-air – a scene that was enough to make one doubt life itself. Lu Yanli simply watched it quietly, ignoring its laughter.
“Had enough laughing?” Lu Yanli said.
“If I’m not human, what else could I be?”
“Also, I have to say, you volunteered to let us devour you. You can’t retaliate.”
“Volunteered?”
Lu Yanli: “I won’t be left with just a brain.”
“Hey, hey, stop, stop, don’t touch it. The human brain is the most precise instrument, and if it breaks, no one will fix it for me.”
Lu Yanli didn’t respond, his eyes silently observing, not knowing what he was looking at.
“What else did you devour?”
“I just want to know what I used to be.”
The brain was very agitated.
Lu Yanli could tell from its tone that if it were a person, it would have a bad temper and a changeable personality. He had been intentionally provoking it, and now it seemed he was about to succeed.
“What’s the point of knowing who you used to be? Anyway, we’re all going out together. You’re already human, isn’t that good? You’re the one who wanted to be human,” the brain continued to chatter.
“The machines will soon be successfully developed. They’re still fighting, they can’t control us here. Tomorrow, we can leave tomorrow.”
It kept changing the subject.
The brain, which was still trying to persuade him, immediately replied, “Yes.”
“Do you have emotions?”
“Yes, I had a fish that died, and I was very sad, heartbroken for a long time,” the brain sighed convincingly.
“Yes, I raised it for several years.”
Both sides knew that this was just a fish that the brain had imagined raising, as if it had actually changed the water and fed the fish, touched the cold, slippery scales with its own hands, and buried it with its own hands.
“Have you ever had any other pets before?”
“No, and I don’t want any in the future.” The brain sighed.
“Before the sea mutated, there wouldn’t have been mutated fish at the bottom of the sea. Why don’t you want to raise another one?”
“Then forget it, I haven’t even appeared yet.”
…
Lu Yanli had already obtained the information he wanted. It believed that it had gained “emotions” for several years. Counting the other clues it had given, he was now completely certain – the other party’s “emotions” were acquired.
Having obtained the answer, he ignored the brain’s persuasion and walked out.
He needed to know some other things, like what exactly he was.
