1TWITF[C Chapter 156

Lu Yanli didn’t answer, only continued to ask, “Where is he?”
“Well, he’s doing some necessary things.”
“Necessary things?”
Before he could press further, he suddenly felt a slight tremor in the surrounding walls, with continuous vibrations coming from above. Lu Yanli asked, “What’s happening?”
The ground monitoring was essentially destroyed. After the brain pulled up satellite images, it said regretfully, “The land surface is almost finished.”
The sky was filled with bizarre birds, tearing at each other, feathers and flesh falling down like rain. The situation on the ground was no better, with dense clusters of strange creatures and non-creatures still fighting.
“It’s been contained for five years. The back looks like a doll, but the front…” the brain said, adjusting the angle for him. The monitoring screen showed a pigtail girl crouching and seemingly shivering. Looking at her face, there was only a bloody maw occupying the entire space. Inside the mouth, she was chewing on the head of a mutated fawn, its long antlers forcefully torn off and discarded to the side.
A line of identical, half-human-sized little boys hopped along. After one was bitten to death by another alien species, a new little boy immediately appeared at the back of the line. With their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them, the little train hopped and skipped across the hillside.
“Won’t it burrow underground?” Lu Yanli noticed something and pointed to the vines dragging the woman underground.
“It will, so they are guarding.”
What the brain didn’t say was that soon, they wouldn’t be able to hold out either.
Another violent tremor, the sounds from the surface getting louder and louder. It was hard to say what kind of sound it was—an explosion? Thunder?
Lu Yanli soon found out.
It was the sound of seawater pouring in.
When they jumped in, they were also jumping into the brain’s monitoring range.
“They are escaping. Some things might escape to headquarters.”
Lu Yanli: “How long do we have?”
The brain calculated the distance and speed of the boy crawling like a spider on the ceiling closest to them and said with certainty, “Three hours.”
“Three hours. Can your machines complete it?”
“80% probability, no. The investigators can hold them off for a while longer, enough to last a whole day.”
“A whole day, twenty-four hours. Can the machines complete it then?”
“80% probability, yes.”
Brain: “Yes. You just need to protect yourself.”
The sense of incongruity was even stronger.
Lu Yanli made the request again: “Where is the other me? I need to find him.”
The brain didn’t speak, nor did the room door open, clearly not intending to agree.
Lu Yanli: “Why?”
“Probability of death for both, 75%. Probability of you killing him, 15%. Probability of him killing you, 10%.”
It needed to screen between these two people and certainly couldn’t allow them to sabotage each other.
His eyes narrowed slightly. Lu Yanli said, “You’re very afraid of us getting hurt?”
“But what does our getting hurt have to do with you? We will take you away.”
Brain: “…”
Not hearing the answer he wanted, Lu Yanli stopped speaking and waited quietly.
The monitoring screen was still showing the scenes outside. In the seawater, two red phantoms were vaguely wrestling with each other. They were so large that even after the picture suddenly zoomed out dozens of times, the two red figures floating on the surface of the water could still be seen.
They were devouring each other.
Lu Yanli realized this. He had never prayed so fervently as he did now that they would fight longer, more fiercely, and preferably destroy each other.
The mark on his chest was instantly icy cold.
It was that thing calling him, telling him to open the door and let it in.
Lu Yanli knew that his plan had failed.
“Take me to find him,” Lu Yanli requested for the third time.
The brain still didn’t agree. Lu Yanli had no choice but to settle for the next best thing, opening another door and walking back. He returned to the room where the brain was located.
Brain: “We just need to wait now. Don’t be anxious. Don’t let your heart be disturbed.”
Lu Yanli smiled: “Of course, I won’t be anxious.”
His heart sank slightly, feeling that his plan had deviated again.
Had it already chosen his past self? That was why it had repeatedly prevented him from killing the other.
However, if they wanted to go to the new world, an orderly world, only one person could go.
In the same space, there cannot be two identical leaves, and a person cannot step into the same river twice. If they wanted to go to the new world, an orderly world, only one person could go.
“Just wait patiently,” the brain said.
Lu Yanli: “Until the machine is developed?”
“Yes.”
“Then…” Lu Yanli finally raised the question, “Which one of us do you want to enter the new world?”
The brain was silent.
The underground base was very, very large. Lu Yanli didn’t know which level he was on. The doors along the long corridor in front of him were only half-opened. Each time he opened a door, he would experience a perilous or bizarre event, but he still needed to open them.
