1TWITF[C Chapter 18
by REX-NOVELISTSChapter 18
Lu Yanli, running downstairs, regretted it. Just as he stepped onto the third-floor landing, he vaguely saw the silhouette of a child hopping downwards in the darkness.
Hiss—he abruptly stopped in his tracks, even retreating a few steps.
He Lou, running upstairs, also regretted it. As faint lights flashed past the window, he heard the distinct “thump, thump, thump” of hopping approaching him.
He Lou quickened his pace.
What to do? What to do?
He couldn’t escape upstairs for long; he would eventually reach the roof. Once on the roof, where could he go?
Wait?!
Certain death?
A thought suddenly occurred to him.
Li Fangzhi, now a zombie, also had to abide by the mission rules, right?
At least… delay for a while, let him recover some strength, or he might not be able to complete this task.
When a zombie first transforms, its body is too stiff to adjust freely. He Lou silently recalled what Senior brother Lin had said, hoping that he wasn’t lying to him, at least on this point.
He heard the increasingly violent banging on the door outside, one crash after another, extremely loud, the force so great that the entire apartment building seemed about to collapse.
Finally, the door was smashed open.
The hopping footsteps came closer and closer to the doorway of the room.
He Lou almost held his breath.
For some reason, the sound suddenly stopped again.
What’s going on?
The night was already dark, not to mention he was under the bed, the bedsheets hanging all the way to the floor. He couldn’t see what was happening outside at all, and could only rely on sound to identify things.
What happened?
Should he take a look?
It shouldn’t matter if he lifted the curtain and took a peek, right? Just one look.
No, no, no, that won’t do.
He Lou shrank further under the bed, in case he was too close to the edge and something happened.
It was this movement that caused his arm to brush against something. The stiff, cold touch made the hair on his body stand on end.
He slowly turned his head and met a pale, greenish face.
That face was Feng Chuchu’s.
He smiled.
Escape!!!
Almost instantly, He Lou rushed out. Unexpectedly, there was no sign of Li Fangzhi outside the room. He ran downstairs as fast as he could, trying to reunite with Lu Yanli.
Now that he was the only one left, Lu Yanli couldn’t be so crazy as to get rid of him as well; he still had value.
It was sad to say, but He Lou had never imagined that one day his position and that of the NPC would be completely reversed, his survival entirely dependent on his usefulness. But he had to admit that no matter how terrifying Lu Yanli was, as long as he saw through his intentions, being with him was always better than facing the ghosts directly.
Just as he ran out, he bumped into a figure. Lu Yanli scolded him softly, “Why are you running so fast?”
Li Fangzhi and that little ghost had both been taken care of by him, so why did he still look like he’d seen a ghost?
He Lou stiffened for a moment when he bumped into the person, but the body was warm, and he immediately relaxed. He lowered his voice and quickly explained what had happened: “I hid under the bed to avoid Li Fangzhi. Li Fangzhi was gone, but I saw Feng Chuchu under the bed.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the thump, thump, thump sound reappeared.
A pale head was bouncing closer, a look of crazed fascination on its face, bobbing out bit by bit. It was so pale that even in the dark night, one could vaguely make out the expression on its face by the moonlight.
If you didn’t see that it was just a head, the way it was hopping really wasn’t much different from a ball.
Feng Chuchu’s head bounced closer, and it opened its mouth, revealing several rows of white, sharp teeth. It quickly bit toward the two of them—
In the nick of time, Lu Yanli shoved a stick into its mouth. In an instant, he had thrown the head, along with the iron rod, out the window.
Fortunately, they were standing in the stairwell, and the windows in each stairwell were wide open.
One cannot leave the apartment within a week. This rule had to be obeyed even in death. The moment Feng Chuchu’s head was thrown out of the apartment, it suddenly let out a scream. The next moment, it emitted wisps of blood fog, as if it were being corroded, and quickly disappeared.
“What about Li Fangzhi and the other one?”
Seeing that the threat of Feng Chuchu was gone, He Lou felt much more at ease and asked about Li Fangzhi’s whereabouts. Although he hadn’t seen the little ghost chasing Lu Yanli, he knew why Li Fangzhi’s talisman was gone.
It was probably torn off by that thing in the elevator.
Lu Yanli breathed a sigh of relief and pointed to the window, “I just found the talisman that the little ghost tore off her in the elevator, and I stuck it back on her.”
This was the reason He Lou suddenly heard the hopping sound stop. After sticking the talisman back on, Lu Yanli carried the corpse to the window and threw it out.
“I threw it outside too.”
The word “too” made He Lou silent.
Although his strategy was to find a way to get Li Fangzhi out of the apartment, now that Lu Yanli had actually done it, He Lou couldn’t help but feel a little sad when he recalled the days they had worked together.
Just like that, gone…
He shook his head, throwing out the excess emotions.
He Lou, on the other hand, became uneasy.
As a Celestial Master, a zombie should be very valuable, right? Otherwise, he wouldn’t have to act so seriously about those two zombies. Could it be that he never intended to attack Lan Zhiyu at all?
Looking at the situation, perhaps it was… almost successful?
Could he hold on until the mission completion time?
The worlds where they did missions were sometimes the same. If Lu Yanli didn’t die, they might very well meet again.
Just thinking about it was a tragedy.
This abnormal NPC’s information could be exchanged for a lot of benefits.
But all of this would have to wait until after he returned to be realized. Whether he could survive was still unknown.
He Lou subtly glanced at Lu Yanli, took a deep breath, and asked, “Where should we go now?”
Lu Yanli said with certainty, “The interlayer between the third and fourth floors!”
He Lou understood.
Little did he know, Lu Yanli wasn’t sure either.
But it didn’t matter, it would be good to let He Lou go in and try first.
It was almost dawn.
