Chapter 2

The subway shook, “Creak—” a long sound, the doors slowly closed, and then, it moved forward little by little.

However, Lu Yanli didn’t relax. He looked up at the faint bloody mist in the rear carriage.

“Are we just waiting here until the station? I still have a bad feeling.” The person who said this was a short-haired girl with delicate features. Her hairstyle was very short, almost no longer than a boy’s, with red lips and a brow piercing, very individualistic.

She was Li Fangwan’s twin sister—Li Fangzhi.

Li Fangwan followed up, “It’s very likely that one of the passengers just now carried a curse. We should stay away from them.”

Among the group, everyone trusted Li Fangwan except for He Lou. Seeing her say this, He Lou also nodded and walked straight further inside.

Lu Yanli walked beside the slightly overweight middle-aged man, Yu Gaoyi, chatting with him. He glanced worriedly at the passengers behind him who wanted to follow but didn’t dare to, and sighed softly, still not offering any advice.

*I wonder how many can “survive,” and if it’s enough to shield me from a deadly calamity?*

In the eyes of others, this was a display of his kind heart, yet a reluctance to act.

Many people looked down on this.

The subway silently moved forward, the outside of the window was pitch black, the heavy night completely enveloping the subway, and the air inside the carriage became increasingly cold and eerie.

It was as if something was about to come out…

“Ah!!!”

A scream broke the silence, startling the people who had been whispering quietly.

“Something happened!”

“Quick, let’s go!”

Although he didn’t expect to see anything, Lu Yanli still saw a passenger leaping high from over the burly guy’s shoulder.

His face was pale, a large part of his neck bitten off by something, revealing a bowl-sized, blackened wound, with only a little skin and flesh covering the skeleton. It was worrying whether that head with the stiff expression would fall off.

Because the man behind him was too tall, Lu Yanli could only see a head. He glanced at it quickly, immediately showing a terrified expression, and turned around to continue running.

When the burly guy behind him saw Lu Yanli like this, he immediately understood that there must be something behind him, but he didn’t dare to turn his head, so he could only run for his life.

Lu Yanli pondered as he ran.

The inside of the subway wasn’t large. They had been rushing forward all the way without seeing any other passengers, so he wondered where those people had gone.

Thinking of this, Lu Yanli shouted as he ran: “Everyone, faster! There’s something following us!”

Currently, he still had value, so these people would try their best to protect him. Once he had revealed all the information, then, during an escape like this, he would definitely be the one left behind.

But now, everyone hadn’t yet shown their true colors, so necessary reminders were in order. If the group in front thought everything was fine and stopped, he wouldn’t be able to get away with it either.

For some reason, this subway was particularly long. They had been running for a very long time, yet it felt like they could never reach the end. They ran for a long time, but the subway showed no signs of stopping.

For a time, there was only the sound of chaotic footsteps and heavy breathing.

Lu Yanli dodged a few pieces of debris falling from the dilapidated ceiling, and then looked at the surrounding scenery, which had somehow turned into the style of an old Shanghai tram, and he was certain.

He looked back again, and the thing that had been following them was gone. The lights in the carriages behind them were all turned off, pitch black. Only the carriage they were in and the area ahead that they hadn’t run to were brightly lit.

“It’s… it’s okay… there’s nothing anymore.”

The burly guy was still following behind, so he had to stop him first, and then he himself slowly stopped. He glanced at the crowd who were slowly stopping because of his shout, and slowly calmed his breathing in front of them.

His mask had already been half-pulled down during the escape, only covering his chin. Having run for so long, if he still didn’t change his expression, it would easily arouse their suspicion.

And when they stopped, the “subway” also slowed down.

The carriage was too old, so just slowing down already made it creak under the strain. But to everyone’s ears, this sound didn’t sound like the aging of a wooden building, but rather gave people a feeling of… the cracking of bones when stretched.

It was as if this subway was some kind of living thing…

Lu Yanli looked out the door, his pupils shrinking.

“Where is this? Should we go out?”

“After running for so long, we’ve finally stopped.”

“Little Li, did you record how far we ran?”

Li Fangzhi raised her mobile phone: “The step counter shows that we ran nearly four thousand meters, which took 26 minutes.” Her dress was gender-neutral and she looked quite cool, but she answered questions in a methodical manner.

He Lou nodded and asked: “How’s everyone’s stamina? Can we continue?”

Among the crowd, the oldest was undoubtedly the slightly overweight middle-aged man named Yu Gaoyi. He was covered in sweat and took the lead in saying: “I need to rest for a while.”

Lu Yanli saw that none of them mentioned it, so he immediately filled his expression with fear, and then shuddered, subconsciously taking a step back.

Li Fangwan, who had been paying attention to him, immediately asked softly: “What’s wrong?”

Lu Yanli shook his head, his voice very low: “Haven’t you noticed?” He secretly pointed to the outside of the door with his lowered hand.

The others looked outside the door, puzzled.

“What’s wrong?”

“Is there anything unusual?”

“Have you… have you seen that woman?”

“Which one?” He Lou immediately became alert, “Describe her.”

“I… the woman on the advertisement,” Lu Yanli’s forehead was covered with sweat. He unconsciously swallowed, “The woman on the advertisement before we set off, she’s still there… she’s staring at me.”

What?!

The others immediately turned their heads vigilantly, but saw nothing.

Li Fangwan said: “I didn’t see anything, it’s pitch black.”

The others nodded.

Lu Yanli’s face turned completely pale.

“In that case, should we go out?” the yellow-haired youth asked.

He Lou said: “Wait a little longer.” He glanced at Lu Yanli, “Tell me about any changes in time.”

Before Lu Yanli could agree, the woman in his sight changed again. Her complexion gradually turned pale, the smile on her face slowly disappeared, her eyes were ferocious and resentful, and her face was cold.

“She…”

Lu Yanli opened his mouth: “She, she disappeared…”

Just as he was about to speak, everything outside the door disappeared, leaving only darkness like the gaping mouth of an abyss.

“Click.”

A sound like a phonograph turning on.

The lyrics were in a dialect from who knows where, but in any case, they couldn’t tell what was being sung. They only felt that the melody was not bad, and for a moment they were a little immersed in it, wanting to listen a little longer.

*I really want to keep listening…*

*What a wonderful song, it’s so touching…*

Gradually, blood poured out of their ears.

Their hands also began to tremble unnaturally, their heads tilted, and they put their hands on the neck of the person closest to them. In this way, everyone had a happy smile on their faces, reaching out and pinching the other person’s neck—and then, slowly exerting force.

Even though the backs of their hands were straining so hard that veins popped out, everyone’s faces began to turn red due to lack of oxygen, and their tongues stretched out uncontrollably… but they still had happy and obsessed smiles.

*Too wonderful…*

Lu Yanli had already blocked his ears, but still couldn’t prevent the music from burrowing into his brain. These people were all harming each other in pairs, and only he was left alone. He also pinched his own neck hard, biting his tongue tightly, trying to use the pain to clear his mind.

His eyes stared straight at He Lou.

*No… he can’t show it yet.*

He immediately withdrew his gaze. He staggered over, “accidentally” stumbled, and used the momentum to forcefully bump into He Lou.

He Lou’s eyes cleared for a moment.

“Everyone, run! Quickly!!!”

After He Lou’s shout, he took the lead in running out the door. Soon, everyone followed him out. And as soon as they got off the subway, they were shocked by the scene outside.

“This, this is…”

The two missing were the slightly overweight middle-aged man, and a man wearing glasses. They were too tired from running all the way, so after the car stopped, they sat directly on the subway seats. Now, they were constantly pounding on the windows and shouting at them.

“Help! Brother Lou! Help me!”

“Please! Help me!”

The carriage door closed, the lights went out, the carriage instantly darkened, the pleas turned into angry curses, and soon turned into wails.

“Ah ah ah ah—”

The screams stopped abruptly.

From inside came… the sound of something chewing.
