1TWITF[C Chapter 51
by REX-NOVELISTSChapter 51
“What are we going to the crossroads for?” Shi Yan hadn’t quite reacted, but seeing Chu Xiu suddenly understand and follow, she jogged a few steps to catch up.
Wen Qing didn’t know what was happening and subconsciously followed. Shi Yan originally intended to tell her not to come, but Lu Yanli turned his head and said, “Everyone, follow!”
Therefore, as long as Wen Qing wasn’t caught, she shouldn’t pose too much danger.
Shi Yan ran in the middle of the four, urgently sending a message to Nie Yunzhen, telling him to come quickly.
The crossroads were a bit far from here. Even running at their fastest speed, a few minutes wouldn’t be enough to reach them. Running along the dark road, the singing in the forest suddenly stopped.
They ran even faster, almost desperately. A second slower could mean their death.
Finally, the crossroads vaguely appeared ahead. Three cars were crashed together, their fronts heavily dented, with the four skeletons still inside.
It all matched up.
The four skeletons in the three cars, plus the twelve student skeletons, made a total of twenty-four!
No, that’s not right. There was still one problem…
Lu Yanli suddenly turned his head.
At the end of each of the four roads, figures in school uniforms were walking toward them.
Which car held the real ones?
Or were they all real?
“Hurry! Get those bones down!”
Lu Yanli didn’t have any tools. He picked up a brick from the roadside and, not caring if he got hurt, used his elbow to protect his face and smashed the brick forcefully into a window!
“Crash!”
Glass shattered everywhere, with several shards piercing the back of his hand and some scratching his forehead. But he didn’t care. He continued to use the stone to clear the remaining glass, then simply and efficiently dragged the two skeletons out of the front seats.
As expected, the four skeletons matched their identities. Their clothing was the same. Lu Yanli thought of something and reached out, feeling around on one of the skeletons until he found a playing card.
This was the way out!
Suddenly catching something out of the corner of his eye, Lu Yanli whirled around and threw the stone, which was the size of what two hands could hold, smashing it hard into a student with a pale face.
Wait!
Something seemed wrong.
Wen Qing lowered her head to carefully examine the clothes on the skeleton. The night was dark, but after adapting to the darkness, she could still vaguely recognize that the clothes worn by the skeleton she was holding were exactly the same as those worn by the man smashing the window!
What was going on?
Her heart leaped.
Could it be… that the man was also a ghost?!
The thought sent a chill through Wen Qing. She wanted to run, but it was too late. Another figure in a school uniform slowly approached her.
It was Yun Qian.
Even though her face had turned pale and her eye sockets were filled with darkness, she could recognize that it was Yun Qian.
She froze in place, unable to move, and could only watch as Yun Qian walked towards her step by step.
Behind her, Lu Yanli carried three skeletons at once. Wen Qing sensed the breath of a living person and the warmth emanating from him, which reassured her somewhat.
Yun Qian had already reached her. She tilted her head, revealing a bizarre and twisted smile.
“Found another one.”
With that, she stretched out a pale hand, slowly moving it towards Wen Qing’s face.
Just as that sharp, withered hand was about to reach her face, Wen Qing suddenly had a flash of inspiration and understood the purpose of the skeletons.
She took out the playing card representing her identity from her pocket, then lifted the skeleton’s head and placed it under Yun Qian’s hand.
Yun Qian stopped.
Wen Qing could even smell the rotten odor emanating from her, as if it came from the depths of the earth. She stood frozen in place, not daring to move, her heart pounding like a drum, biting her lip tightly to prevent herself from making a sound.
Please, it must… it must work!
It seemed like half a century had passed before Yun Qian finally moved again.
The smile on her face widened further. In Wen Qing’s terrified yet composed gaze, that hand slowly reached forward… and landed on the skeleton.
With a crack, the skeleton’s head shattered.
Then, she turned into a wisp of green smoke and disappeared.
Leaving Wen Qing still holding the lifting position, with a playing card clutched in her other hand, the taut string suddenly relaxed, and she gasped for breath.
Who would have thought that yesterday’s dead end would be today’s way out?
However, when the last student grabbed a skeleton and disappeared, there were still two skeletons left.
“Damn it! It must have gone to chase Nie Yunzhen!” Shi Yan’s face changed drastically.
Without her needing to remind them, everyone thought of this problem. Even Chu Xiu, who usually didn’t care much about his teammates, felt a headache.
Under normal circumstances, it wouldn’t matter, but this mission was clearly very special. They were trapped in a cycle of life and death. One wrong move could create a dead end for themselves. Naturally, he hoped nothing happened to Nie Yunzhen.
Otherwise, dying and coming back to life would be a lot of trouble.
Lu Yanli, on the other hand, breathed a sigh of relief. He was temporarily safe. He asked, “What are you going to do now?”
He wondered if the corpse worms were still waiting. If the crisis on Yinming Road was resolved, he wouldn’t mind staying a little longer.
Of course, the prerequisite was that Mr. Nie Yunzhen didn’t turn into a ghost.
Chu Xiu said, “Let’s go back to the car and wait. If he doesn’t come by the time, then…”
Anyway, they still had two skeletons. It wouldn’t matter if the ghost killed him; it could offset the damage.
At this moment, he was glad that Wen Qing had survived. Otherwise, he would have to carry a skeleton to find Nie Yunzhen to prevent him from becoming a new ghost. If that happened, they wouldn’t have enough skeletons.
Thinking of this, he suddenly started.
Could this have been Lu Yanli’s plan all along? He didn’t want to take risks, so he left Wen Qing behind from the start.
On the other side, Lu Yanli was chatting with Wen Qing. Chu Xiu suspected him, frequently sizing him up, but Lu Yanli didn’t even raise his head, clearly not intending to explain.
Just one minute before they were about to get into the car, footsteps came from the distance, accompanied by hurried breathing. As the figure got closer, they easily recognized it.
It was Nie Yunzhen!
He wasn’t dead?
This discovery surprised all three of them, but no one showed it, so as not to attract trouble.
Chu Xiu didn’t find anything. He seemed the same as usual. Finally, he stepped aside and said, “Let’s go, get in the car.”
Just as he said the last word, a hand suddenly stretched out from under the car and grabbed Wen Qing’s ankle tightly. Then, the hand pulled her in forcefully, dragging Wen Qing under the car.
Wen Qing didn’t even have time to scream. By the time everyone came to their senses, Wen Qing had disappeared.
There was nothing under the car.
Wen Qing had simply disappeared. They had ultimately failed to protect Wen Qing’s life.
After carefully checking the inside and outside of the car again and confirming that there was no danger, the four of them quickly got into the car with the two skeletons, ready to leave.
He certainly couldn’t have come for no reason. And from the way he looked when he first arrived, it seemed like he was being forced in by something.
What forced him to break into Yinming Road?
Lu Yanli turned his head to look out the window.
The outside was still pitch black, but compared to the overwhelming, black, oily corpse worms, this darkness felt particularly welcoming.
“Because of the corpse worms.” He didn’t type; he spoke directly.
Chu Xiu thought he had misheard, “What? Corpse worms?”
“Because of the corpse worms. When I was staying at the hotel, I was almost drowned by corpse worms, so I came in this direction.”
Chu Xiu’s lips twitched slightly. He could already imagine the scene.
So, he was actually coming with the intent of chasing away a tiger only to usher in a wolf?
“The last one,” Chu Xiu said, reciting the task that seemed to be engraved in his heart.
Shi Yan, who was sitting in the back seat, made a soft sound of surprise.
“Those students we were looking for earlier were from this school.”
Lu Yanli didn’t care, his fingertips tapping lightly on the armrest.
He was considering whether to accompany them on the adventure on the last day.
Chu Xiu had become a pawn of his and would diligently collect information about the Church of Omniscient Divinity for him in the future. And this game happened to contain some information about this religion.
What secrets did this school hold?
Or was the secret on Wen Qing alone? Otherwise, it would be difficult to explain the temporal turbulence of the past few days. Even now, he couldn’t be sure if, in another timeline, these people were still experiencing death after death in the hotel.
As he was thinking, Chu Xiu suddenly slammed on the brakes, and Lu Yanli was caught off guard and fell forward. “What’s wrong?”
“I think I hit something,” Chu Xiu said, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
No one would come to Yinming Road at night, so what he had just hit was…
Without needing to ask further, the car’s headlights illuminated a pair of pale, naked feet slowly hanging down from above, dangling in front of the window, swaying gently in the wind.
The expressions of the four people in the car changed drastically!
