Chapter 6

Fortunately, nothing strange happened on the bus. The further the bus went, the newer the furnishings inside became. By the time it reached its destination and everyone got off, the vehicle had been completely renewed, looking no different from a normal bus on the outside.

Even though it was already late at night when they got on the subway, the sun still hadn’t risen. Outside the window was the late-night city, with its dim lights.

“Get off the bus,” the driver said in his still-raspy voice.

The back door slowly opened.

Of the fourteen people who originally entered the world, only six remained. And their real mission hadn’t even started yet…

He Lou took several deep breaths to calm himself down.

This mission was bound to be extremely dangerous! He had to survive.

He secretly glanced at Lu Yanli, the man who had always seemed foolish and full of unrealistic, naive fantasies.

Then, he added, “I have three rooms at home. We can squeeze in. After all, in our condition, it’s not convenient to stay in a hotel…”

Coming out of the blood fog, everyone was covered in a thin layer of blood. Staying in a hotel like this might cause the staff to call the police.

He Lou and the others were planning to go to Lu Yanli’s house anyway, so how could they refuse? Without even a token gesture of refusal, they agreed.

They got off the bus next to a square. It was late at night, and there were only faint, bright lights inside and outside the square. The night was cool with the autumn wind, and everyone quickened their pace.

The others tried hard to find the main point in Lu Yanli’s rambling, verbose speech.

In front of the police, the neighbor said that he just wanted to eat dumplings, but he had to work during the day, so he only had time to chop the filling at night. He didn’t expect it to cause a misunderstanding.

The police even did a blood test, and the results proved that the house was clean.

It seemed like it really was just a misunderstanding.

Then he took off his mask, and under the mask was…

“Was what?” Huang Wei asked, pressing him.

Lu Yanli was dazed for a moment and shook his head. “I can’t remember.”

As they spoke, they arrived at the residential building where Lu Yanli lived. Everyone’s attention had been drawn to Lu Yanli’s conversation, and they didn’t notice that their shadows were a bit strange.

The streetlights were dim, and their shadows were equally dim. Li Fangwan clearly only had shoulder-length hair, but the shadow she cast on Li Fangzhi’s back showed a woman with hair reaching her waist.

As the wind blew, the long hair in the shadow fluttered, slowly merging into the shadow of the building.

“We’re here. I live here.”

Stepping out of the elevator, Lu Yanli enthusiastically came to a door and took out his key to open it.

He Lou looked up at the door number: 304.

Horror movies often used the number 4, which is a homophone for “death,” as a symbol of terror, such as in license plates or phone numbers. He Lou didn’t find it too strange. He stood at the door and quickly glanced at the furnishings inside the house.

The house was large and quite empty. It looked like a typical bachelor’s residence. Li Fangzhi looked at her watch. It was now 11:52 PM.

They had finally arrived at the location before the mission deadline.

And no one knew what would happen next.

Everyone looked at each other.

Seeing this, Lu Yanli said, “If you don’t mind, you can wear mine? It’s just…” He looked apologetically at the Li sisters.

Now that they had reached their destination, her tone returned to its previous coldness.

Lu Yanli went into the room with a good temper. “Let me see if I can find some.”

He still hadn’t taken off his hat and mask. Under the shadow of the brim, his eyes were without joy or sorrow, but they had a hint of irony.

Lu Yanli found several sets of clean new clothes and went out.

Li Fangzhi had already put her sister on the sofa. She took the clothes and nodded in satisfaction, glancing at everyone except He Lou. “We’ll go first.”

The force of the chopping made people wonder if he was planning to chop the cutting board as well.

Huang Wei tried to make conversation. “With such force, no wonder you suspected him before…”

Since he said so, the others followed up. “It’s okay, we’re here.”

“Now that there are more people, he won’t dare to do anything.”

That night, everyone was a little sleep-deprived, and they weren’t in good spirits when they got up in the morning.

Right now, they were sitting together eating breakfast. He Lou and the three Li sisters were discussing things in low voices.

The mission deadline was one week. Although it couldn’t be ruled out that ghosts might suddenly go crazy and kill people maliciously, the first day was usually not too dangerous.

Lu Yanli had said before that he and his neighbors had called the police and knocked on the door, but they hadn’t encountered any danger yet. So He Lou was inclined to go upstairs to take a look during the protection period of the first two days.

“Who will come with me?” His gaze swept across the Li sisters and the remaining three people.

“It’s best to lure him away so we can go in and investigate.”

“How do you know?”

“Because I’ve been following him,” Lu Yanli said.

He had already taken off his mask after showering last night. As expected, he was a handsome man. Now, he was saying these words with a smile, which made everyone’s spine tingle for no reason.

“I’m observing him every day now. This is the conclusion I’ve drawn after observing him for two weeks. He’s not home every three days from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. He drives to the Ocean Park in the city center…” Lu Yanli said his tracking observations unhurriedly.

As expected…

He Lou even had a feeling of finally arriving.

Constantly facing these bizarre events, how could Lu Yanli always maintain a cowardly, kind-hearted attitude? He must have some abnormal aspects. This was normal.

“Then, let’s knock on the door and ask today,” He Lou decided. “Li Fangwan, are you feeling better now?”

Li Fangwan had been silent since waking up. What others didn’t notice was that her hair had grown a bit. She raised her eyes and said faintly, “Yes.”

The others didn’t seem to notice her attitude was off.

“Huang Wei, you go too.”

Huang Wei was about to find an excuse to refuse, but Li Fangzhi’s eyes glared at him sharply for a moment. Huang Wei swallowed and had to agree.

If Li Fangzhi didn’t say anything, He Lou might protect him. But if Li Fangzhi spoke, He Lou would definitely watch him die.

With Li Fangwan there, Huang Wei, who was controlled by Li Fangzhi, naturally couldn’t escape He Lou’s control either, Lu Yanli thought.

Around ten o’clock, the group went upstairs. Lu Yanli raised his hand and knocked on the door.

“Sir?”

For some reason, this door gave him an unusually cold feeling. It wasn’t even cold season yet, but when he reached out and knocked on it, he only felt chilling to the bone.

The bloody smell seemed stronger.

He knocked for a long time, but there was no response from inside, as if the house had never been inhabited.

Instead, the opposite door creaked open, and a bald head poked out from the crack in the door. Seeing Lu Yanli, he grinned and opened the door. “Little Lu, you’re here to settle accounts with this guy again?”

Lu Yanli smiled wryly. “Yeah, did you hear it last night? It was too noisy. I couldn’t sleep all night.”

“They’re all my friends. They came to see me,” Lu Yanli said.

“Oh, friends, okay.” The brawny man scratched his head. “I advise you not to expect him to change his ways. Anyway, I’m planning to move. Damn it, noisy every day, so annoying!”

“Move?” Lu Yanli seemed enlightened.

“Okay, I’ll consider it,” Lu Yanli said.

The brawny man closed the door, and Lu Yanli introduced to the others, “That person is Guan Yunlong. He’s been taking care of me since he came. If he really moves, I’ll really miss him. I’m considering whether to move too.”

Saying this, he turned back to knock on the door. As expected, the door still didn’t open.

“Why don’t you try knocking on the door too?” Lu Yanli knocked for a while and shook his hand.

Huang Wei said, “I’ll do it.”

He used the same words as Lu Yanli and knocked for a while. Then, for some reason, he leaned forward and stuck to the peephole to look.

“I didn’t see anything, just… a white blur.” Huang Wei suddenly shuddered.

“Forget it.” He Lou turned his head and asked, “When will he go to the Ocean Park again?”

Lu Yanli calculated the time and said with certainty, “Today.”
